Andrew completed his qualifying swim with Black-Ice on Saturday the 21st of August 2010 in water which was 8.2 degrees celsius.

A keen school boy swimmer Andrew was captain of his school swimming squad.  After a challenge by a New Zealand friend to swim the 4.5km Rangitoto channel, Andrew got back into swimming in his late 30s. He swims for fitness and personal challenge. He has swam numerous Victorian open water swims ranging from 1.2 to 11km. In 2010 he swam a duo Rottnest Channel swim (and raised $60K for men's health charities)  and in 2011 he swam a solo Rottnest. In July 2011 he swam a solo English Channel in 14 hours 40 mins.

Andrew is a proud swimming club and squad member at Melbourne Vicentre, he also swims squads with coaches John Van Wisse and Robert (Butch) Butcher. ..but " there is nothing quite like a cold open water swim with the Black Ice club", he says. "You know you're alive when you hit sub 10 degree water in the middle of winter".
