Alby has been competing in open water swimming for many years now and been a regular 'iceberger' since 2000. He has crossed the English channel on two separate occasions - once as a soloist and twice as a member of 'Team Extreme.'

Amoungst Alby's many achievements are:

- Completed a solo crossing of the English Channel in 2003 in a time of 14hrs 43 mins.
- Completed a double crossing of the English Channel as a member of 'Team Extreme' in 2001.
- Assisted as support crew in four other sucessfull crossings of the English Channel.
- Assisted as support crew in one sucessfull crossing of the Cook Straight.
- Sucessfully completed 11 Pier to Perignon swim classics.
- Sucessfully completed three relay crossings of Rottnest Island as a member of 'Team Colourpac'.
- Sucessfully completed __ 'Harry Raisbeck'winter mile swim classics.
- Competed in numerous open water events in Victoria over the years.
